  • Procedure for the Palace Royal Guard Changing Ceremony

    • 1. The royal guards on duty are assigned to the Gwanghwamun Gate. At the first sound of the drums, the guards taking over leave for the Gate.
    • 2. At the second sound of the drums, the royal guards going on- and off-duty make a military salute and identify themselves.
    • 3. The royal guards are assigned to their duties under the command of their leader, who checks the state of the Gate and the conduct of the soldiers.
    • 4. The head of the royal guards and the officers who are off duty prepare to leave. At the third sound of the drums, they leave the Gate under the command of their leader.
    1. The duty soldiers enter(through Hyupsaengmin Gate).

    1. The on-duty royal guards enter (through Hyeopsaengmun Gate).

    2. The duty soldiers are arranged(at the inside of Gwanghwamun Gate).

    2. The on-duty royal guards are assigned to their respective positions (inside Gwanghwamun Gate).

    3. The First drumming(beating the Big Drum three times).
