Overview
The National Heritage Agency and the National Heritage Service are conducting official development assistance (ODA) projects in cultural heritage for Pakistan. The Gandhara Cultural Heritage Research Center has been established in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. We are providing training in digital documentation of the moveable and immoveable cultural heritage and conservation of the inorganic cultural heritage artifacts. We will support Pakistan to sustainably manage the cultural heritage of Gandhara, so that it can be passed on to future generations.

Activities
In 2021 and 2022, Gandhara Heritage Research Center was created on the first floor of the Department of Archaeology and Museum, Islamabad, Pakistan. The research center consists of two parts: Conservation Analysis LAB, Conversation Treatment LAB and Research Office. The Conservation Analysis LAB and Conversation Treatment LAB are equipped with various specialized equipment, including vacuum impregnation machines, constant temperature water baths, and portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometers. While, Research Office is equipped with surveying and recording equipment for moveable and immoveable cultural heritage , including total station, drones, and 3D scanners. The opening ceremony of the Gandhara Heritage Research Center was successfully held on March 2, 2023. Since its opening ceremony, the center has developed itself as an active cultural heritage research institution.
The Conservation Analysis and Treatment LAB provides scientific conservation treatment and technical training workshops for inorganic relics such as metal, stone, pottery and terracotta objects. We are improving our skills by carrying out a series of conservation processes ranging from examining the condition of artifacts before treatment, cleaning, stabilizing , strengthening, bonding and restoration, and recording the condition after treatment. In addition, we are strengthening professional capabilities in conservation science by providing special trainings on overall conservation science, including paper and conservation philosophy, to cultural heritage officials from the central and local government institutions of Pakistan.

In order to systematically conserve, manage, and utilize Gandhara cultural heritage, we are constructing digital prototype data using modern methods such as surveying equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The human resources trained by building a database of Gandhara cultural heritage together with the Korean team will lead Pakistan's digital heritage in the future.
In addition, we provide technical education and experience in recording cultural heritage by holding training workshops and invitational trainings for officials of related organizations and students of related departments.
