The Korea Heritage Agency National Heritage Sparking Joy
The Korea Heritage Agency (KHA) was established pursuant to Article 32 of the Framework Act on National Heritage. It is a specialized institution operating under the Korea Heritage Service with the aim of transmitting, sharing, and utilizing national heritage. We carry out a wide range of activities, including cultural heritage projects that highlight the royal palaces and tombs; performances, exhibitions, and experience programs for the transmission and dissemination of intangible cultural heritage; content utilization and promotion; dissemination of traditional household culture, such as food, wedding rituals and customs, and related products; excavation surveys of buried heritage; and international cooperation and support. We will strive to publicize the value of national heritage and foster its appreciation through proper transmission and creative utilization so that all citizens can enjoy it.

Main Activities of KHA
Through diverse events staged at the Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, and Gyeonghuigung royal palace, at Jongmyo Shrine, and at the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, we will take the lead in conveying the value and meaning of Korea’s cultural heritage, thereby providing all participants with the opportunity to naturally acquire awareness of history and enjoy diverse experiences.

Located in the Chungmu-ro neighborhood, Korea House is built in the style of a traditional Korean house (hanok) on a site that was formerly occupied by the house of Bak Paeng-nyeon. The Korea House strives to popularize and preserve Korean wedding traditions while safeguarding and promoting traditional food.

Since the establishment of its Survey and Excavation Office in 1995, the KHA has been seeking traces of Koreans of the past that are at risk of being damaged by development. It also studies the stories of the people of the past that live on in buried heritage by performing conservation treatment on artifacts.

Based on our expertise in the conservation and restoration of Korean cultural heritage, we are working to safeguard the world heritage of humanity. Starting with the Cultural Companion Project in 2008, we have been conducting ODA (official development assistance) projects in various regions and cultures. We are also striving to help the countries receiving our aid to build a self-reliant foundation and foster local human resources for the sustainable conservation of cultural heritage.

The KHA is a non-profit institution that supports public-interest projects in the field of art and culture pursuant to the Enforcement Decree of the Corporate Tax Act. We operate by executing donations received to fulfill our objectives of safeguarding, preserving, and disseminating national heritage and promoting the development of traditional culture.
